Hospitalization

While we are not a 24-hour veterinary clinic, the vets will often hospitalize dogs and cats who need more intensive therapy than what can be delivered at home. These patients are often on IV fluids and medications while under the care of our veterinarians and staff. If any patient requires more intensive care with 24-hour monitoring, the doctors will recommend transferring to a local emergency center in Richmond, Midlothian, Short Pump, or Manakin-Sabot.

Chemotherapy

Our primary goal in providing chemotherapy for our patients is to treat cancer in a way that provides good quality of life for your dog or cat, for as long as possible. Being faced with a diagnosis of cancer for your pet, and the prospect of chemotherapy, can be a daunting. The vet will discuss options for managing your pet's specific needs, and will monitor each patient to determine which protocol is best for your pet.

Laboratory

Bon Air Animal Hospital has a sophisticated in-house laboratory available for pre-anesthetic testing, emergencies, and any conditions requiring same day results. In addition to blood cell counts, electrolytes, and chemistries, we also run heartworm tests, urinalysis, fecal exams, feline leukemia and FIV tests, and fungal cultures in house. This allows us to provide a high quality of care to our patients.

Nutritional Counseling

We have a wide range of prescription diets for cats and dogs available from Hill’s, Purina, and Royal Canin. These foods are meant to help manage certain conditions for your pets which require dietary modification. Prescription foods can be very beneficial to the treatment protocol for your pet.

In-House Pharmacy

All of our doctors have received specialized training in the field of veterinary related pharmacology. Our clinic has an in-house pharmacy stocked with a variety of medications specifically for the pharmaceutical needs of small animals. For medications not stocked in our clinic, we are able to write scripts for you to get your pet’s prescriptions filled at an outside pharmacy.
